SUMMARY:HGCC-Fergus Interclub Competition 2025 - Images Due
DESCRIPTION:In 2019\, we started a friendly inter-club competition with the Fergus & District Camera Club as an annual spring event with Highland Glen and Fergus camera clubs alternating hosting duties for the competition.  Each club enters 30 digital images.  This is an open category competition\, so any subject\, processing technique\, etc. is accepted. \nThe competition is intended to be a showcase of the achievements of the club as a whole and not just a few members. HGCC members can submit up to three images for consideration. The club decides on the images to be submitted and strives to have at least one image from every submitter. \nDetails of the competition and image standard are posted here. \nSubmit images using this online form. SUMMARY:Theme:  Faceless Portraits
DESCRIPTION:Faceless Portraits. What is a faceless portrait? As its name says\, its any type of portrait in which you cannot see the person’s actual face. Its about finding other creative ways to depict a person and their identity and highlight other aspects of your subject (or yourself!). Hiding the face can be done by cropping the image\, using silhouette\, covering the face with hair\, hand\, hat or veil\, photographing from the back of the person\, with their head turned away or with their face in shadow\, photographing other body parts e.g. hand\, deliberately blurring the face e.g. with motion blur\, or using post-processing to remove or blur the face. \nSee How to Take Great Faceless Portraits (+ Posing Ideas) and 16 No Face Photo Ideas You Must Try in 2024 for more information and ideas.

DESCRIPTION:Jonathan Sau is a fine art photographer based in Waterloo\, Ontario. His photography work started back in the film days. Today his photographic interests are diverse\, with a focus on natural and urban landscape\, astrophotography\, and floral and close-up. \nIn his presentation\, Jonathan will cover the following: \n\nDifferent types of astrophotography targets and phenomena including the moon\, eclipses\, star trails\, Milky Way\, meteors\, comets\, and northern lights. \nPlanning an astro shoot – tools\, techniques\, and knowledge of the night sky to make sure you’ll be at the right place\, at the right time\, and pointing at the right direction.\nChasing the elusive aurora in southern Ontario.\nEquipment\, accessories\, and shooting techniques.\nPost-processing.\n\n  \nJonathan is a board member of the GRIPS camera club in Kitchener\, a member of the KW Chapter of Royal Astronomical Society of Canada\, and a CAPA certified judge. DESCRIPTION:  \nImage by Julie Seiler “Villa Frederick James” \nFor this evening get ready to share and encourage your fellow photographers.  There will be three segments to the evening:  Influential Photographer presentation\, Image Share and Resource Sharing.  Join us for a fun night of learning and sharing. \nInfluential Photographer:  A HGCC member will present and introduce us to George Hunter\, a Canadian Documentary Photographer. \nImage Share:  With this being St. Patrick’s Day the unofficial theme for tonight is ‘Lucky Shot’.  Whether your pictures fit the theme\, are from your vacation or from other times\, feel free to share up to 4 images and tell us a little about the images. If you would like critique\, please let the group know.  You can bring your images on a USB stick/drive and we’ll load them on the computer before the start of the meeting. Alternatively email them to submissions@highlandglen.ca by dinner time of the 16th.  Please size your images as outlined on our website (here is the link to the specs: https://highlandglen.ca/index.php/digital-competition  which takes you to the Digital Competition web page and halfway down you’ll see a section titled Image Standards) to ensure they show as expected on the screen. \nResource Sharing:  For tonight as well share with the group a photographer you follow (YouTube\, Instagram\, etc.) that you find inspirational and/or helps you with your photography knowledge.
