SUMMARY:Outing: Tim Murton’s Twilight Zoo
DESCRIPTION:Tim Murton’s Twilight Zoo\, a unique collection of lantern sculptures\, has been decorating the streets of Elora\, during the month of October\, for almost two decades.  Artist Tim Murton started the Twilight Zoo in 1996 as Halloween decorations for the kids.  During the month of October local artists\, community groups\, businesses and other organizations started adding themed events as popularity grew\, leading to the name “Monster Month in Elora.”  Sensational Elora\, along with the support of some generous sponsors\, purchased the collection known as The Twilight Zoo and accepted responsibility for organizing both Monster Month and the Monster March parade.   \nTim Murton’s biography and recent article. \nNOTE: October 22\, 2022 – 6:00pmMeet-up @ the new Badley Bridge at the corner of Mill St. traffic lights.

DESCRIPTION:Image Evaluation & Feedback\nEvaluating someone else’s image can be a daunting task. You don’t want to hurt the\nmaker’s feelings\, but at the same time\, you want to tell them about the things that you\nbelieve would make for a stronger image. \nAnd what about evaluating your own images? That too can also be a difficult task as we\nall find it hard to be objective about something we have put a lot of time and effort into\nproducing. \nIdeally\, feedback should be a collaborative process between the maker and the person\nevaluating the image – think of it as a conversation. Tonight’s interactive presentation\nwill give you guidelines for consistent evaluation of photographic images (whether yours\nor someone else’s) and offer strategies for providing positive and effective feedback. \nAnd don’t worry\, there will be an opportunity to practice these skills during the evening. \nMany of you may already know Bill as he has judged some of our club competitions.  Bill is a local photographer who has judged local\, regional\, national and international photo competitions of prints\, projected images and audio-video shows. DESCRIPTION:Interior and exterior of the Basilica and walking around the side streets in the area. This is a free event but donation boxes are there for those who wish to give. Parking at back of church. \nBasilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Guelph.  A Gothic Revival style building constructed between 1876 and 1888 by architect Joseph Connolly\, it is considered Connolly’s best work.  In 1990\, the church was designated a National Historic Site of Canada. \nThe church has a good description on Wikipedia. \nNo tripods inside the church.  Julie recommends a wide angle lens. \n

Start with your friends and family\, the people who will put up with you. Discover what it means to be close to your work\, to be intimate with a subject. Measure the difference between that and working with someone you don’t know as much about. Of course there are many good photographs that have nothing to do with staying close to home\, and I guess what I’m really saying is that you should take pictures of something that has meaning for you…” – Annie Leibovitz \nPhoto Critique:\nMembers submit up to 2 images for critique. There will be a panel of members and/or guest to review images and provide constructive critique. \nImage share:\nShow up to 4 images from your Family theme images\, Low Angle/High Angle theme images or photographer’s choice images. \nSubmission of images:\nOur regular image standards apply.  \n\nSubmit up to 2 images you would like critiqued. \n\nSubmit up to 4 images you would like to share. \n\nEmail all images to submissions@highlandglen.ca preferably by dinner time on Sunday Feb 6th but no later than 9am Monday Feb 7th.\nPlease indicate which images are for the critique vs the share.\n\n\nIf you are submitting images from a phone\, we have directions on how to resize your image for an iOS phone [pdf].   For those using an Android phone\, directions would be similar; you could use the 3rd party app Photo & Picture Resizer.

DESCRIPTION:In 2019\, we started a friendly inter-club competition with the Fergus & District Camera Club as an annual spring event with Highland Glen and Fergus camera clubs alternating hosting duties for the competition.  Each club enters 30 digital images.  This is an open category competition\, so any subject\, processing technique\, etc. is accepted. \nThe competition is intended to be a showcase of the achievements of the club as a whole and not just a few members. HGCC members can submit up to three images for consideration. The club decides on the images to be submitted and strives to have at least one image from every submitter.\n \nDetails of the competition and image standard are posted here.\n \nSubmit images online at  SUBMIT HERE.
