SUMMARY:Virtual Guest Speaker: David duChemin - The Heart of the Photograph
DESCRIPTION:A compelling photograph is more than visual. It’s visceral. We don’t only see it\, we feel it. It’s more than just focusing our lenses\, it’s also focusing the attention of those who will experience our photographs. Great gear helps\, but what about the other tools? What about juxtaposition and mystery\, story\, mood\, depth\, and energy? What about the power of a great moment? And when it comes to gear\, is it enough that we have all the tools\, like great optics\, or should we be developing a sensitivity to the unique ways in which different focal lengths amplify the feeling of a scene when used well? \nThe Heart of the Photograph is an inspiring presentation about these very ideas\, and it will change the way you make your photographs and reignite the spark if it has cooled off. \nPhotographer and best-selling author David duChemin has taught this amazing craft on all seven continents\, and has appeared on stages for companies like Amazon and Apple to teach the human side of this craft. With over 35 years experience making photographs\, his calling is to help photographers make photographs that are more than just sharp and well-exposed. David teaches how to make photographs that light a spark in people\, that communicate clearly\, that captivate imaginations and grab the attention and hearts of the people who will see them. As an international workshop leader and author of best-selling books like Within The Frame and The Soul of the Camera (both published in over a dozen languages)\, he’s taught students this incredible craft on all seven continents. David’s lecture will inspire you to go deeper with your craft and find greater joy—and freedom!—in the exploration of your vision. \nThis is a pre-recorded talk and there will be a discussion afterwards. A number of us have seen David talk in person and on video; he is an amazing and inspiring speaker. \nKhutzeymateen Inlet\, Northern British Columbia\, Canada

SUMMARY:Jack MacAuley: Black & White Prints
DESCRIPTION:Influential Photographer: Yousef Karsh \n“There is a brief moment when all there is in a man’s mind and soul and spirit is reflected through his eyes\, his hands\, his attitude. This is the moment to record.”  Yousef Karsh \nBlack & White Prints by Jack MacAuley\n \n“I’ve lived in Kitchener since 1965\, and shortly fell in love with the lush southern Ontario landscape. My photographs are taken in all seasons\, but I have a special interest in winter photography. My teachers and mentors Howard Bond\, Stuart Nudelman\, and Norman Rothschild have given me a lot of coaching\, for which I am very grateful. Although photography is a medium based on technology\, the important part of my background are the people. The arts community in Waterloo Region is a growing and vital one. My fellow photographers are not my competition; I see us as all being in this together. “  Jack MacAuley \nJack was a member of the Kitchener Society of Artists and is a long-time member of our camera club. He uses 8″ x 10″ and 4″ x 5″ view cameras for his black and white landscape photography. \nJack requests that members bring a pen and some paper for an exercise.

SUMMARY:Guest Speaker: JP Stones - Storytelling for Photographers
DESCRIPTION:Great storytelling can help your audience connect emotionally with your images. But understanding how to weave a narrative into your photography can be confusing. How can one photo tell a whole story\, with a beginning\, middle\, and end? \nJP Stones has spent the last 5 years photographing the same group of Mexica\, or Aztec\, dancers. In that time he learned how connected the Mexica are to their mythology. To stories passed down across generations. That’s when he decided that\, as these stories were so vital to Mexica culture\, they needed to play a bigger role in his portraits. \nThis is a talk is about what happened next. About how a desire to tell stories visually\, ended up changing his entire creative process\, and the way people react to his photos.  Using examples from his cultural photography work in Mexico\, JP Stones explores different ways to improve that emotional connection. Including how myths and character archetypes can be harnessed for better storytelling. \nGuests are welcome for this talk\, please complete the Guest Registration Form .  We will be in contact.  The guest fee is $10. \n \nJP Stones on site.  He will be joining us live on Zoom from Mexico.

SUMMARY:Recommended Activity: Interactive Kayak Light Installation
DESCRIPTION:Stephen Orlando of www.motionexposure.com\, did a light painting workshop for Highland Glen a few years ago. He is creating a light art installation for Waterloo’s Lumen Festival on Saturday September 23rd from 6-11pm and would like to invite Highland Glen to take photos. There will be 20 kayaks (10 kayaks at one time) on Silver Lake in Waterloo Park with LED light paddles where the LED colours will be controlled wirelessly from onshore by the public. He won’t be personally taking photos at the event\, but he thought it would be a great opportunity for Highland Glen to get some very unique long exposure shots. \n

SUMMARY:AGM and How to prepare photos for printing
DESCRIPTION:How to: Preparing photos for printing\nAbdula from BJ Photos will talk to us about printing photos. \nInfluential Photographer:  Nathalie Daoust\n“Since my very first experiments in photography I have been fascinated by human behaviour and its various realities\, by the ever-present human desire of living in a dream world. The aesthetic of my new project continues this visual exploration at the border between dream and reality\, yet this time it embraces escapism of a country and the act of loosing oneself within it.” – Nathalie Daoust \nAnnual General Meeting\nThis meeting is to conduct the business of the K-W Highland Glen Camera Club.  Includes (but not exclusive to) election of officers and directors\, and approval of the annual financial report. This meeting is open to the membership of the K-W Highland Glen Camera Club.  Agenda to be circulated closer to meeting.
